Fall music: Artists flying under the radar

ZZ Ward debuts her album 'Til the Casket Drops' on Oct. 2.



As fall's abundance of new music spills out over the season, it's easy for lesser-known bands to get submerged in all the noise. Their gritty, distinctive dance rock has also been featured on Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl.For fans of: Yeah Yeah YeahsTift Merritt, Traveling Alone (Oct. 2)The hook: Pop and country fans alike could take a shine to the Grammy-nominated singer's intimate style of storytelling and swooning vocals. (Oct. 9)The hook: The German electronic dance music artist is a classically trained musician who composes his songs on piano before importing them into his computer. His hands-in-the-air style of club techno has earned A-list fans such as Skrillex, and he's worked with Lady Gaga and Deadmau5.For fans of: Tiesto, David Guetta, AviciiMachine Gun Kelly, Lace Up(Oct. 9)The hook: The up-and-coming rapper recruited an eclectic mix to collaborate on his album, including Young Jeezy, Avenged Sevenfold, Bun B and DMX. For fans of: Of Monsters and Men, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Milo GreeneSmoke and Jackal, EP No. 1(Oct. 16)The hook: Fans breathlessly awaiting the next Kings of Leon album get a step closer with Jared Followill's side project. Followill and vocalist Nick Brown create a sleepy, wistful brand of rock that may have enough emotional swagger to tide listeners over.
